Talkin' Bout a Revolu-u-shon.....

From Indymedia

New Zealanders, Mike Treen, Mark Muller and Jared Phillips have recently returned from Venezuela, Philippines and Nepal respectively. They were guests of three of the world’s most inspiring movements for national and regional self-determination. They will lead discussion on the nature of liberation and revolution from three viewpoints: from inside the Bolivarian movement led by Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, to the legal and underground expressions of people’s power in the Philippines, and to the expanding liberated zones of Nepal.

Sat 8 July, 9am – 5pm
Wellington Central Library

Organised by:
Wellington Worker’s Educational Association (WEA), Latin America Committee, Victoria University Student’s Association, Wellington Branch National Distribution Union, Worker’s Party of NZ, Philippine Solidarity Network.

New Zeal

Mark Muller is a Maoist and longtime member of the Workers Party and as involved in its parent body, the Revolutionary Workers League. He has ties to the International League for Peoples Struggles, a Maoist grouping led by Jose Maria Sison of the Communist Party of the Philippines. In 2004, Muller travelled to Andra Pradesh, India to investigate allegations of state terror against the region's Maoist rebels. Muller is on the executive of the National Distribution Union and is based in Auckland. His recent visit to the Philippines was organised by the International Labor Solidarity Mission.

Jared Phillips joined the short lived Hamilton branch of the Workers Party in the early '00s. By 2002, he was Wellington's sole member of the party. In April 2003, Phillips travelled to Nepal where he travelled in the zones "liberated" by the Maoist rebels. On May day that year he met Baburum Bhattarai, leader of United Peoples Revolutionary Council. Phillips is also involved with the Revolutionary Workers League.

Is'nt it odd that those who work for 'labour' organisations have never worked a day in their entire lives.

Or have anything in common with those that do.

So how do you explain the fact that for the last two decades Mark Muller has been a rank and file worker and activist leading union struggles, first at Kinleith Paper Mill in the late 80's/early 90s and then until the present at a South Auckland distribution centre where he was instrumental in bringing about an increase from $11 to $18 an hour in the starting rate besides many other improvements in working conditions?

Anon, Muller is a pretty rare bird, a working class socialist. Most socialists these days are the university variety.

I saw the Indymedia article too. If Muller really did what it says re the hourly rate he should be ashamed of organising what I would call extortion.

That extra undeserved money came indirectly out of other workers pockets.

He should hang his head.

How did the money come indirectly out of other workers' pay packets?

Because cameron, the company has X amount of money to pay staff. If certain staff get a raise with no increase in productivity, that means other workers will forgo wage rises or lose their jobs, or simply not be employed.

If you get paid more than you are worth, somebody else must miss out.

Soimple physics.
