"Good on Yer, Bruce"

I went to visit my friend, Bruce Logan yesterday at the Maxim Institute's Christchurch branch. He was clearing out his desk, his last day at work before he starts retirement.

As a professional teacher, Bruce saw early on the gradual degradation of NZ's education system, by who he would call "liberals" and I would call socialists.
He also saw the wider picture, the disaster of a welfare state out of control, the
danger to our liberties from politicians who ignore our constitutional heritage.

As a strong family man, Bruce also saw the detrimental effects of an intrusive state on family life and the effects of widespread marriage breakdown on children.

On leaving teaching, Bruce took on a leadership role at Maxim and in a very short time helped turn it into one of the most influential "think tanks" in NZ.

As a libertarian I was on a different side to Bruce on one or two issues. On most areas though, I found it very easy to support his well thought out views.

Bruce is retiring, but I suspect that freed from the responsibility of directing his staff, he will be busier and more productive than ever.

Bruce, I wish you a very happy and full on retirement.
