Congratulations Mr VP

Congratulations to my husband, Trevor, on his sucessful bid for Vice Presidency of ACT today.

The party couldn't have a more diligent, loyal and philosphically aligned VP.

Love Tracey

Yes Trevor, thanks for standing and I'm glad you gained the confidence of ACT's members. I wish you well, the task ahead isn't easy.

Your first job, if you decide to accept it, is to get rid of that anything-but socially liberal president. As as three term act voter I am not supporting a party for a fourth time with a homophobe as president and a media slut as leader.

Trevor, Do you think Rodney Hide appearing on Dancing with the Stars is a good look for ACT?

Well done Trev! Good to see Lib ideas now held by the leader and the President and the VP. No excues for contradictions now....forward!!!!

Thanks guys, I'll do my best to serve our ideals well

Trevor, you would achieve a great deal if you can get the party to actually express its ideals in a way voters can understand.

Reply to anonymous, trouble is no one in ACT can express their ideals in a way that even ACT members understand!

Trevor, you have not answered the question about Rodney accepting the invitation to appear on dancing with the stars. Do you think it is a good look for ACT?

Anon Regarding "Dancing With the Stars" I think its a risk, but certainly one worth taking. What do others think?

Im for it! What benefit will ACT and Rodney get from NOT doing it? Some positive PR that breaks the image of scandal mongering will be fantastic. Look what it did for Norm Hewitt.

I'm a bit wary about the
"dancing with the stars" thing. But then again I thought Going all out to win Epsom was a bad idea. Congrats Trev and workers of the world unite.

On the one hand you could think that there isn't much more damage that can be done...

...but us 1.5%ers are having a tough enough a time defending our fearless leader to the 98.5%ers on issues of policy.

We don't need the distraction of Mr Twinkletoes Hide. Let's stick to being an effective opposition and and promoting broadly attractive policies.

ACT as a party and ACT policies being overshadowed by its leader's egotrips isn't my idea of fixing the party and increasing its support base.

Let's focus on the job at hand.

As distracting it might be, how many of your non political friends or associates actually know that much about Rodney Hide? Introducing Rodney to my mates at Uni was easy, introducing Rodney to mainstream NZers will be good. It is up to how the media protrays this to the viewing public!

The problem, Heine, is when you mention Rodney Hide to non-political people, you get a VERY clear response as to what they think of him. There is no ambiguity. And generally it is not favourable, and almost always it's to do with the man, not the policies his party stands for. Words like low, despicable, evil...

People around me treat me like some kind hearted well meaning but completely misguided soul that will probably return to the National fold after his flight of liberal fancy.

I suggest if you truely are committed to the liberalism, good ideas and flat taxation that you stick alongside us.

No disrespect to National but they don't share these views with us, so why go there?

Have you met Rodney face to face?

Heine

It's all very well asking whether someone has met Rodney in person, but unless ACT is committed to 1.5% of the vote, sending Rodney out to meet people won't get you over that magic threshold.

I hate the man's politics (right wing, and muck raking), but I had a number of dealings with him while working in Parliament, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that he really does care about helping people (even if his methods are hideously misguided). Unfortunately for ACT, this will make no difference to your polling. Particularly while you continue to play at McCarthyism...

It doesn't matter what Rodney is like in person (and he is a great guy, lots of fun and very humble). It's the *perception* of what he's like that counts. And people's perception can't be doubted. I wouldn't be doubting it if I didn't know him.
