Didn't Rodney and Krystal Do Well Then?
Well I watched Rodney on "Dancing With the Stars" last night and I thought he was bloody good. I was a bit disappointed in his score (I thought he deserved to be in the middle of the pack, not last), but then I'm biased. Rodney came across very well and his humour, warm nature and humility really came through. Krystal seems like a great lady and she and Rodney clearly get on well.
Even Aaron Bhatnagar praised Rodney to the skies in a comment on The Whig.
My wife, who has competitively danced thought that Hide was fair to middling, and although he came last in the scores, was not atrociously bad.
That's way over the top for Aaron.
Lorraine Downs was great and Beatrice Faumuina is clearly going to be an audience favourite.
Normally, the only TV I watch is the 6 o'clock news, the National Rugby League and a bit of the Super 14. I'll be watching this show though.

Don't worry, he soon let rip with a few other statements that put down Rodney :)
I think it was a good performance, and the crowd seemed to as well. Krystal is an excellent teacher and I think those two have great chemistry together, which is another important part of the competition. I danced many moons ago and thought that Lorraine Downes was the best and was (like Rodney) marked down unfairly by Brendon.
Hopefully RH will do well with the voting this week!

It has nothing to do whether Rodney dances well or not, and everything to do as to whether he will be taken seriously by the voters. Thats the risk he runs. Text all you like, but it won't improve ACT's polling one whit if Rodney is voted off in the first week or makes it to the final

It also won't damage ACT's poll rating - that's not possible.
It is sad to see the mighty Mr Bhatnagar resort to pathetic ad hominem attacks on Clint Heine.
I think Aaron is entitled to critique Rodney, albeit with the knowledge he is Chair of the Remuera branch of the National Party (maybe he should have a disclaimer after his comments?). But I don't agree with him, and wonder how productive it is for the Epsom National Party to continue to adopt the negative approach it did prior to the last election. While I do not believe he has yet done so, Rodney should be given the opportunity to prove himself worthy of National's endorsment in 2008. Given that I doubt he will, National should instead focus on selecting a candidate who can beat him, and then campaign on his or her positive attributes. National lost its safest seat last time because it ran a negative campaign.
As much as the programme makes me puke, I think this can only be positive for Rodney. He now has buses going all over his electorate with his ugly mug on them. He is on TV for free. He has so far not made a dick of himself. This helps him greatly in solidifying his position in Epsom, which is all he really cares about anyway.
I've been pretty upfront about my role in National, especially on this blog in previous comments, but of course I don't sign off with the title as I don't comment in the capacity of representing the National Party.
Blair and I obviously disagree on whether Rodney's appearance on DWTS is helpful or not. That's fine, no problems with that. But I would just helpfully point out that free publicity doesn't necessarily mean good publicity. Any politician can get lots of coverage by doing zany things. Whether it helps their image in the long run is a different matter. I've always been clear about that.
