Vietnam Party's 10th Congress Re-affirms Communist Goal

Abridged from the Communist Party of Australia'a Guardian

Vietnamese Party Congress Decides on Major Issues

The 10th National Party Congress, which closed in Hanoi on April 25, voted on a number of issues before approving the full text of the Political Report, the Socio-Economic Report, the Party Building Report and the revised Party Statute, which were all presented by the 9th Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee to the 10th Congress.

The Congress agreed on its theme, which is "to enhance the Party’s leadership and combat capacity, bring into full play the entire nation’s strength, comprehensively boosting the renovation cause, and deliver our country from its underdeveloped status soon."

For the next five years, the Congress agreed to a target for an average annual GDP growth rate of 7.5-8 percent and more.

The Congress agreed that "our country has the following economic sectors: the state economy, the collective economy, the private economy (comprising individual, proprietorship and private capital economies), the state capital economy and the foreign-invested economy".

The Congress affirmed: "Party members involved in private economy must set examples in observing laws and State policies, strictly abiding by the Party Statute and regulations of the Party Central Committee".

The Congress agreed on the revised goal of the Party, which is "to build an independent, democratic, rich and strong Vietnam with an equitable and civilised society without exploitation, successfully realising socialism and communism as a final goal".

Yeah I think the Vietnam war was a just moral cause. One of the few wars I agree with.

Those Vietnamese had every right to drive out both the French and American imperialists. ;)

Yet Vietnam is significantly more free than China, I think the Vietnamese communists are incredibly quaint now - this place will be free before China is.

Vietnam is free, anybody who has travelled into the country and about the cities can testify to that. I saw nothing but free enterprise existing there.

Sure the Govt is pretty heavy handed in some respects, but you get that with quasi communist/socialist Govts.
