Did Iran Spark the Lebanon Debacle?

According to Jane's Intelligence Digest of 21.7.06, Israeli Intelligence suspects Iran was behind the Hizbullah attack on Israel on the 12th of July during which two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and several killed.

The Israelis believe that Tehran "influenced the timing of the incident in order to divert international attention from its nuclear programme which was high on the agenda of the G8 Summit in St Petersburg."

Israeli PM Ehud Olmert has publicly repeated this claim.

Trevor.

many people in the reason see this current cycle of violence beginning with the Israeli shelling of the beach in Gaza in early June which killed seven members of a young Palestinian family. The Zionist soldiers were taken hostage afterwards, one in Gaza and two later by Hizbollah to take the pressure off the Palestinian people.

The world is outraged and opinion has turned deciseively against Israel and the US. Many people in the region now openly support Hizbollah and Hamas's resistance as legitimate. Witness the scenes today on NZ news of the angry protests against the ineffectual UN in Beirut. This anger is now pouring out on the streets of Cairo and the world.

Israeli intelligence? Sounds like a contradiction at the minute, brother.
