Global Cooling?... Don't Tell the Greens
Maksimovich at Outsidethecube has an interesting post on global.....cooling.
"Global cooling could develop on Earth in 50 years and have serious consequences before it is replaced by a period of warming in the early 22nd century, a Russian scientist said Friday.
Environmentalists and scientists today focus on the dangers of global warming provoked by man's detrimental effect on the planet's climate, but global cooling - though never widely supported - is a theory postulating an overwhelming cooling of the Earth which could involve glaciation.
"On the basis of our [solar emission] research, we developed a scenario of a global cooling of the Earth's climate by the middle of this century and the beginning of a regular 200-year-long cycle of the climate's global warming at the start of the 22nd century," said the head of the space research sector of the Russian Academy of Sciences' astronomical observatory.
Khabibullo Abdusamatov said he and his colleagues had concluded that a period of global cooling similar to one seen in the late 17th century - when canals froze in the Netherlands and people had to leave their dwellings in Greenland - could start in 2012-2015 and reach its peak in 2055-2060.
He said he believed the future climate change would have very serious consequences and that authorities should start preparing for them today because "climate cooling is connected with changing temperatures, especially for northern countries."
"The Kyoto initiatives to save the planet from the greenhouse effect should be put off until better times," he said, referring to an international treaty on climate change targeting greenhouse gas emissions.
"The global temperature maximum has been reached on Earth, and Earth's global temperature will decline to a climatic minimum even without the Kyoto protocol," Abdusamatov said.
Dr. Abdusamatov is chief of the Space Exploration Department of the Central Astronomical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the supervisor of the Astrometria project of the Russian part of the International Space Station".

I hope you're joking. A counterblow to global warming delivered in the form of a UPI press release (rather than a journal), republished almost verbatim in such respectable publications as Pravda, about a scientist who stakes this claim on the presupposition of cycles rather than any data?
On the other side, we have such famous socialist hotbeds obviously rallying under their esteemed Red masters to give credibility to such claims:
NASA GISS
NOAA
IPCC
NAS
SOCC
EPA
UK RS
AGU
UCAR
American Meteorological Society
Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society
Thanks for the links anon. I will check them out. As you may have guessed, I'm a global warming skeptic.
It is interesting that skeptics tend to be conservative or libertarian, while "believers" tend to be socialistically inclined.
Socialists love disasters because it reinforces their negative view of the world and gives them more avenues to control people.
Libertarians have faith in freedom and human creativity and tend to be more optimistic.
I believe climate change is real. I just don't believe that its man made or that socialist controls will improve things.
Let the free market reign. If there is a problem, the free market will find the best solutions.
If there's no problem, every one will just get richer.
I think that's a good thing by the way.
Im a full on greenie and believe to some extent in climate change. But if peer reviewed science come's out saying that humans will not cause substantial climate change then im completely willing to change my opinions. Until then im hopeing that actions are taken to limit human caused carbon emissions.
A rational and fair view John. I wish all greenies were as balanced.
The biggest fallacy in the global AGW area is the scientific illiterate think reputable journals only exist in the english speaking world.
They do not last year in the FSU more physicists graduated then in the us by 1.5 x.The UK which is now lost in thew areas of science produced 2 % of the science graduats of china.
The scintific illeterate always cite peer review.Unfortunately brilliant men do not always publish in norms ,Grigory Perelmen oe of this years 2 Russian field medallists first published his solutions of spherical bodies in the Poincare conjecture. There by disproving anonymous pitiful hypothesis.
Pardon I meant to say publication was on the internet,as a substantial amount of Russian Hypothesis are initially published.
