English Exam Propaganda

Marxists like John Minto think that the NZ education system is far too capitalist oriented. I think it is full of socialist drivel and outright propaganda.

Below is Text A from the latest NCEA English examination paper. Examinees are required to read this text then answer three loaded questions on it.

Even though Aotearoa New Zealand is a multicultural society, New Zealanders still judge and discriminate against others because of difference. Recent attacks against Islamic centres, the vandalism of Jewish graves, anti gay rallies, not to mention school bullying and unfriendliness, prove that NZ still has a way to go in its struggle for human rights.

Take a look around you. Most likely you are surrounded by diversity. Gay, black, Asian, redheads, comic nerds, rappers, ballerinas, rugby heads. Its time to realise that the very nature of humanity is diversity. We do not all look, feel, dress or act the same. How boring would the world be if we did? I mean pulease, I'd rather stare at a brick wall than live in a bland world where people are not brave enough to celebrate the difference.

Perhaps we are all a little guilty of judgement. Its easy to judge what we do not know. Most attacks against people different from ourselves are due to insecurity: a fear that aliens will take over or that I might become gay if I befriend a gay person. Sorry to burst the cosy little bubble that you've snuggled yourself into, but that won't happen. So why not be kind instead?

Diversity teaches us about the world we live in. It teaches us compassion and kindness towardds the people who have every right to share our school grounds. If we don't accept diversity on a small level, how can we ever expect world peace?

Do you detect a few socialist themes here?

Trev, if you can try and get a hold of the Level 2 Economics paper on Government Policy from this year, a page was dedicated to promoting Working For Families and it's "offer of financial support" to "New Zealand families". Candidates such as myself were expected to argue how WFF would decrease inequality and increase growth, unlike the other questions where you could argue for or against government measure.

You might also want to check out some of the anti-Labour propaganda on my new blog.

I can also scan and email you a copy of the English Level 2 resource booklet, there's nothing terribly ideological there but a couple of the texts are pretty PC. One is a Witi Ihmaera speech on multiculturalism and the other is a poem directed at Albert Wendt from a Pacific perspective.

Oh shit your right trev - kindness tolerance and diversity. What the hell is that being taught in our schools for? I reckon its time to bring back the cane and to put those damn minoritys in their place.

On a more serious note i do think students should be given much more freedom to develop their ideas, be they left right or no where on the political spectrum

Two thoughts:
A) What's the surrounding context? What were the questions?

B) I really wouldn't worry about students being fed propaganda through an exam. It's not exactly ideal conditions for absorption.

Curious that diversity-advocates divide society into groups of individuals, as if a single attribute they share identifies who they are. This is nonsense. Every single one of those people are themselves different from the others. Advocating for the INDIVIDUAL - and respect for people as INDIVIDUALS - is the only true approach to diversity. The Left believes in group rights not your individual rights...

Ed, yes if you could email it, I'd appreciate it.

I 've only just discovered your Blog. The stuff you did on DBP made my jaw drop.

Good work. Will link to it shortly.

Ded right Willis. The left seems to have little understanding of what an individual is. Not surprising with their collective mentalities.

Anon. the text had no context. It was stand alone.

Questions 2 was in two parts

a Identify one verbal language feature used in lines 5-9 to try to persuade you to agree with the writer.

b Explain how this verbal feature could help persuade you to agree with the writer.

Really interesting blog about fish oil triglyceride. In a similar vain to fish oil triglyceride, I've found the richest, purest omega-3 EFP fish oil supplement on the market. My health has improved dramatically - both physical and mental. I've been taking MorEPA now for about 6 months and I cannot emphasize how much this supplement have helped me to cope with anxiety and depression. The supplements can be ordered from **wwwomega3.com**. I'd also recommend daily exercise.
