Who Is ClimAction?

ClimAction, the group planning to block Auckland's Queen Street, this Saturday, is essentially a front for NZ's main Trotskyist group, Socialist Worker. The campaign is part of world wide action by Socialist Workers' sister parties.

According to this post on Indymedia. from Socialist Worker member Joe Carolan.

Members of Solidarity, the Greens, Radical Youth, Save Happy Valley Coalition, Socialist Worker, Greenpeace, The Auckland Regional Council, Auckland Animal Action, Residents Action Movement and many other organisations have come together and all are reiterating the strong need for immediate action to prevent climate change from reaching catastrophic levels. The carnival on november the 4th has to demands free and frequent busses in Auckland City, and for the government to go beyond the kyoto protocol both at a domestic and an international level. Behind these demands was a realisation that created climate change is the most serious problem facing humanity today and that a transition to a post-fossil fuel society is needed now!

For the sake of all of our futures the time has come to mobilise, to educate, to raise our voices and our fists, to organise, to demonstrate, to disrupt and most importantly to revolt against and resist capitalism and ecocide! This Action on November the 4th is the beginning of a strong movement relevant to people's daily lives, found in the streets, rooted in our communities and committed to ending climate chaos.

Solidarity is a new trade union headed by Joe Carolan and Socialist Worker leader Grant Morgan.

The Residents Action Movement is also a front for Socialist Worker. Socialist Workers' Grant Morgan leads RAM, while SW linked activists in the organisation in recent times have included Roger Fowler, Len Parker, Kane Forbes, Jemma Ramsey and Sione Ma'u.

The Auckland Regional Council support referred to is of course RAM Councillor, Robyn Hughes. Coincidentally, Hughes is the partner of Grant Morgan.

Ok, so they want free and frequent buses above and beyond what the market demands (and of course with a price of 0 there is potential for infinite demand)..

.. isn't this WORSE for the environment than private unsubsidised motor transport :-P

Yeah, I look upon these groups with a due sense of exhaustion, dread and derision.

Only a very small fraction of the wider environmental movement are actually dedicated to the preservation of the environment, their primary motive is all to do with weakening capatilism.

Damn pinkos.

Hey Trev. Would you have figures on how many votes RAM got in Auckland last ARC election? Who were their candidates and were they all in the "party" or not?
