Venezuela Votes for Dictatorship

From La Prensa Latina

Caracas, Jan 31 The request for special powers presented to the National Assembly by Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, is submitted to mass approval in a public act on Wednesday.

The Parliament plenary already passed the bill for special powers requested by the Executive to make decisions in 11 strategic sectors, including energy, economy, finance, social activity, culture, security, and defense.

According to experts, the law will last 18 months from its publication in the Official Gazette and gives power to the president to approve law-ranking decrees in sectors which are important in the new national project.

After swearing in his 2007-2013 presidential post, Chavez emphasized the entrance in a new period, which requires legislation able to support the efforts of strengthening the revolutionary process.
