Iti Visited Iran?

From today's Herald on Sunday

Maori activist Tame Iti made an impromptu visit to Iran earlier this year - but supporters say it was a legitimate business trip.

The Tuhoe sovereignty campaigner - one of 17 people arrested during last month's nationwide police raids - has been accused of running camps in the Urewera which led to the so-called terror raids.

He is facing 11 counts of unlawful possession of firearms, including Molotov cocktails, a .22 Ruger, another .22 rifle and a military-style Saiga 7.62 rifle. Iti has denied suggestions he is a terrorist, or that any terrorist acts were planned. A source close to Iti confirmed the 55-year-old activist had visited Iran earlier this year in a bid to broker a commercial fishing deal with an Iranian businessman.

However, the deal went sour and Iti returned home.

New Zeal a commentor on this post claims that the Iran trip did not happen.

Unfortunately this story is wrong as is essentially the main problem with believing everything that is overhead in bugged conversations. Iti did intend to stop over in Iran to secure a fish deal on his return from performing Tempest in Austria, but the fish deal went south before he left so the trip never eventuated.

Hmm, now isn't this quite a suspicious trip to Iran from someone who is accused of supporting terrorism.

I kind of get the hunch that Iti wasn't just simply there to have just a mere commercial fishing deal. That instead might be an alibi for someone to use when they travel to a known state sponsorship of international terrorism along with also being associated with radical far left politics.

You will know this is standard practice - it would be interesting to know how many have been to Cuba but all of them would be a good first approximation. (http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO0711/S00276.htm)

Who paid for the trip? I wonder how much the NZ government pays for the Cuba trips? Judging by some of the flights I've been on to the states I would imagine that the gov picks up the Air NZ tab for a lot more kiwis going overseas than it would ever like made public!

Nothing wrong with scoring a free trip anywhere Kevin. i imagine as a learned one from the great halls of knowledge you have had your fair share.

I make regular trips overseas and it dont cost me a bean thanks to the stupid taxpayer. And those that dont know how the system works should carry on working and paying taxes so those of us who know how can continue to enjoy international travel.

Trust wannabee global, nay universal, drama-queen, great thinker, possibly also drinker, Mah of NY to find a serious possibility of a likelihood of a major conspiracy going on between Tuhoe and Teheran.

Although in fairness to Mah, he's not a man (or woman, or whatever) to dilly-dally. No tentative venturing for that boy (or whatever). It's bloody well true ! That's the end of it. Call Rummy at once ! And you're a commie or a bully.....add to that terrorist.....if you don't sever from rationality and just accept what I say.....!

"Check out your next feed of sardines very, very closely..... !". That's all I say as I pick my leathered face up off the floor of my leathered study here in magicland Northland, Aotearoa, having fallen in gales of laughter exceeding those of Katrina, from my studded, leather "Oval Office Replica" chair.

You know Mah, the Katrina that the Patriotic Ponce flew not to but "over", remember ?

The "TT Connection" we'll call it from now on. Hah, hah, hah.....

You should butt out Mah, zionist extraordinaire with alien perspective. You know nothing !

Although Trev I certainly, hmmm, think, hmmm, you'd better investigate the detail given by Anon two above.

Big question - did the world threatening junket happen or not ? Up to you mate. You wouldn't want to be found talking shit again.....surely !?!?

Damn ! I forgot to say IDF:10 Palestinians:1.....there, I've said it. Oh, that feels much better !

Seems appropriate if you gonna sling the "T" word around Mah NY.

Nicely put, Steve. These Libertarianz have high academic aspirations, but one of the requisites is "intellectual honesty". Ad hominem attacks, guilt by association, and dissemination of disinformation through spurious and unverified sources ... hmmm - as a postgrad student myself, I'd hate to be supervising these dudes. Lack of intellectual honesty is, in my opinion, a major manufacturer of insansity. Trev should watch himself a little more closely.
