Below are scans from New Party News Spring 1996.
They prove that Barack Obama was a member of the Illinois New Party and was endorsed by them in his 1996 Illinois State Senate race.

The New Party was the creation of the quasi-Marxist Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the radical community organisation ACORN. The Communist Party splinter group Committees of Correspondence (CoC) was also involved.
I quote from Chicago DSA's New Ground of September/October 1995
The political entourage included Alderman Michael Chandler, William Delgado, chief of staff for State Rep Miguel del Valle, and spokespersons for State Sen. Alice Palmer, Sonya Sanchez, chief of staff for State Sen. Jesse Garcia, who is running for State Rep in Garcia's District; and Barack Obama, chief of staff for State Sen. Alice Palmer. Obama is running for Palmer's vacant seat...Although ACORN and SEIU Local 880 were the harbingers of the NP there was a strong presence of CoC and DSA (15% DSA)... Four political candidates were "there" seeking NP support."

Quentin Young is a neighbour, friend and supporter of Barack Obama. he attended the famous 1995 meeting in the home of Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn where Barack Obama was introduced by Alice Palmer as the chosen successor to her Illinois State Senate seat.
Carl Davidson, former Chicago CoC National Committee member, New Party activist, associate of Barack Obama and friend of Bill Ayers, now serves as Progressives for Obama webmaster.
The originals of these documents are held in the Washington DC area. I personally viewed them when I visited Washington in May 2008.

The invitation listed the committee's address as 88 Third Avenue, which may be familiar to some as the address for the community group ACORN. The contact on the invitation was Kara Hood, an ACORN political organizer. One insider thought that the connection between the candidate and the community group was too tight, and could imply that ACORN's stance on community issues was politicized. "That's a little too close for comfort for me," he said.

The Republican Party is just a bunch of white racists. This is excellent journalism! Forget ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN, I would have thought at least FOXNews would have found this and reported it. For all the talk of Gov. Palin falsely accused of being a member of the Alaska Independence Party, we now have proof that BO was a member of the NEW Party in 1996. Splitting hairs over NP-endorsed and NP member is virtually irrelevant since BO gave a quote to their newsletter and is pictured with all the other wackos. Regardless, his policy positions are clearly in line with the NEW party. Therefore, draw your own conclusions. He is a socialist! Where is their list of endorsed candidates in 2008?

Their main remnant is the New York Working families party-which has endorsed Obama. Surprise.

Politicians flow the direction that the political wind, and work to support their local districts. It IS a big deal for the fiscally moderate voter who believed Obama's campaign (lie) and have been misled by Obama that he will be somehow moderate. I googled the founder of the New Party, guy named Joel Rogers. It so happens that his wife is Sarah E. Suskind. Sarah E. Suskind was an attorney in the small law firm of Miner, Barnhill & Galland, where Barack worked throughout the 1990s. It appears as though she worked at the same time out of firm's Madison, Wisconsin office, which was the firm's only office other than its Chicago, where Barack worked. Given the small size of the firm, the two certainly must have known each other and crossed paths. By the way, Suskind and Rogers are credited with bringing the seminal New Party voting fushion case in Minnesota, which went all the way up to the US Supreme Court, where they lost. Is there a Suskind-Barack link that should be considered?

When you compare us with other countries, we are put to shame by the avenues that are provided to move capital in directions that actually help society and the individual.
So, where I see things going is much more toward a shareholder democracy, a shareholder capitalism."

Trevor, this may or may not have any bearing on the whole thing, but it would be interesting to see if Obama had any involvement in the Timmons case (e.g., someone with access to the 8th Circuit's Pacer system could search through the filings to see whether he signed any motions, pleadings, etc.). It's not out of the question, given Obama's connection with Siskind, although I'm not clear at this point whether Obama/Siskind's firm assisted in the case, or whether Siskind was supporting the case only during her spare time. The Timmons case seems like the sort of case that Obama would have been well suited for, given his prior voting rights experience and ultimate "endorsement" by the New Party. Also, Obama's Harvard Law School professor, Laurence Tribe, argued the case before the Supreme Court, and was likely involved for some time in the case in 96 and 97. (Tribe is now Obama's campaign legal advisor and a big Obama supporter.) Since the Timmons case worked its way through the courts in the mid-1990s (with the ultimate resolution in 97), the timing is very close to when Obama received his "endorsement."
