David Horowitz points out some less than even-handed media treatment.

the difference is that Bush's inaugration was funded by corporate and govt. sources, whereas, Obama simplely tapped into his network of ordinary citizens that were inspired by his campaign to raise funds. this is just one aspect of how Obama is creating an open government, besides Obama's inaugration needed more money because over a million people showed up. a large amount of those funds were spend on public/low cost inaugaral balls and entertainment for the masses NOT elitest events such as at Bush's inaugrations
Progressive thinking when Bush was president: Dissent is patriotic.
Progressive thinking now that Obama is president: Dissent is racist!
So how much money did it cost for security to ensure the safety of the two million people down in D.C., MZL? How much of our tax dollars went into something like that?
Obama is popular and thus draws large crowds...and thats his fault? you know there are 300 million Americans, perhaps (following your logic), it would be cheaper not to protect any of them whether they are in DC or not. you're right, mah29001, damn that "democracy" thing.
I went to the Cohen concert in wellington and find myself wondering what I missed when the news media claims Cohen dedicated his "Democracy" song to the Obama government? I dont remember Cohen making any such claims. I thought his song was a jibe rather than an endorsement.

So I guess, Obama can spend big bucks on after parties that are likely in the millions of dollars of cash, while in the middle the economy starts tanking?
Obama's continuing the same economic policies as George W. Bush by bailing out the failing banking industry. You tell me, that's logical?
MZL,
Would you complain if a similar large amount of money were spent on a hypothetical John McCain inauguration?
What planet do you inhabit MZL?
It must be nice to completely ignore the facts and make up your own little reality.
In response to mah29001:
A) those after parties were paid for by voluntary, private donations, so the economic arguement isn't relavent (at least from the viewpoint of your implied claim that public funds were spent on parties)
B) I agree with you, the bank bailout is a waste. This money is better directed towards increased social, infrastructure and welfare spending - you may not agree with that part ;) .

I'm from Mars but I'm not sure about my "little reality"...
"This money is better directed towards increased social, infrastructure and welfare spending - you may not agree with that part."
Sorry, state run soccial programs, welfare and infrastructure planning are not on my agenda where that money should go. You think the state government should be responsible of everything in everybody else's day-to-day lives?
"Obama simplely tapped into his network of ordinary citizens that were inspired by his campaign to raise funds. "
Most of the funding came from the finance industry. You know, the one bailed out to a tune of $700 million from a Democratic Congress.
"So how much money did it cost for security to ensure the safety of the two million people down in D.C., MZL?"
Closer to 800,000, mah. Reagan's inauguration got higher viewing figures too.
I love that mindless idealism that Obama tapped into this imaginary vast pool of ordinary citizens and that he is above the law. MZL - I simply don't believe it.
He isn't any more special than any politican who wants to spend taxes. Why lift him up as a deity?
