Death at Long Range

Both horrifying and fascinating.

US sniper Steve Reichert kills Iraqi insurgents at distance of one mile.

Its not really an issue of jealousy, its just another ho-hum video of the US military trying to justify why it invaded yet another country in its wars to keep the middle east unstable.

BTW the current military oath:
"I, _____, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

The rumour circulating that Obama was going to force the troops to swear allegience to him directly was a satire piece that got taken seriously, similar to that Rush Limbaugh piece about Sadam and chemical weapons...

sorry Tanin, you are only 1/2 right:

The Commissioning Oath

"I, _____ , having been appointed an officer in the (Service) of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

OFFICERS SWEAR TO PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION NOT THE PRESIDENT

The oath of enlistment, the oath taken by commissioned officers, the oath for non-commissioned warrant officers, officers of the National Guard and others all take different oaths, all of which include the line above, "I will obey the orders of the President of the United States".

The oath you are quoting is the Oath of Office that is taken by officers of the US Uniform Service. But most officers will later take additional oaths that include the obey line, in that list the US Military is pretty much covered.

"OFFICERS SWEAR TO PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION NOT THE PRESIDENT"

Half right, they swear to protect the constitution, but all commissioned and non-commissioned officers will swear an oath in two parts, the first you listed, and the second part you left out.

Part 2:
"I, __________, do solemnly swear or affirm (as the case may be) to bear true allegiance to the United States of America, and to serve them honestly and faithfully, against all their enemies or opposers whatsoever, and to observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States of America, and the orders of the officers appointed over me."

So yeah, they do swear an oath to the president and have done so for over a hundred years, as does the rest of the military.

Not sure where you are getting your quotes from, mine are from the army.mil website.
