Do you think that this describes New Zealand Teacher Unions accurately? If not, then I'd hope that Kiwi's are not your majority audience.
The only thing I would agree with is the potential for abuse of the system that our current union format has. That's not saying that teachers' unions are abusing it though.

I do Sam. I regard the PPTA, AUS and NZEI as menaces to society - to put it mildly.
They are disasters that have held back NZ educational reforms and promoted leftist agendas for decades.
I am against trade unionism as a general principle, but the education unions because of the damage they do to children, I hold in particular contempt.
I have to admit that I've considered parting from the union (ppta) many times. If I did this I would attempt to negotiate an individual contract with my school so that I can be properly compensated for my personal input to the school community (which is clearly more valuable than others because of the subjects I teach). At the end of the day it is just too much work and those who I would be trying to negotiate with won't value me enough to bother. They'll just offer the same as what a ppta member gets anyway.
Trevor, how would you propose to protect teachers from poor work conditions such as impossibly high class numbers and provide pay appropriate to each individual?
Just so you know, I'm not on the offensive here. I'm trying to learn from your views.
