Should Stanley Williams Have Been Executed?

I had little sympathy for Stanley "Tookie" Williams, executed last night by lethal injection in California. A quadruple murderer, gang leader and violent thug of the first order, if anyone deserved to die, it was Williams.

Was his "redemption" genuine. I have my doubts.

Should the State of California injected him with lethal drugs? No

By killing people the state takes upon itself a responsibility it is not fit for. Life in jail with hard labour can be ended and compensation awarded to those wrongfully convicted.

If he was innocent (and I don't think he was), the best Stanley Williams can hope for is an apology.

That isn't quite good enough.

The law is the law. He was comvicted and punished according to the law by death.... If people dont like the death penalty then they should move to a state that does not have it.

If you lived in China Rob and your 20 son was due for a bullet in the neck for embezzlement, would you still advance the same arguement.
The point is Rob, some laws are simply wrong

But Im not in China and there is a reasonable legal system here in USA in most cases. This case was straight up. He was in prison for 23 years for heinous crimes, but the Death Penalty was only brought back here in Ca in 1992. Therefore he may have got the raw end of the stick life wise. Having said that, If I was the Governor I would have done the same. In a democratic society it pays to obey the law. In an undemocratic society, it pays to be street smart and lucky.

Ther's an interesting point Rob. correct me if I misunderstand. The guy commits crimes in the 80s when there is no death penalty. Then the death penalty comes in in 92 and they apply it to him. How does that work?

The re established the penalty in 92... Maybe it was in place when he got the conviction in the first place>?
