ACT on Campus at Canterbury Clubs Day
I helped man the ACT on Campus stand at Canterbury University yesterday.
Andrew, Scott, Stan, Nathan and the team signed up nearly 40 new members, while Rodney Hide was in top form working the student crowds.
AOC's stand was right next to the Young Nats, who did a very good trade. Had a good chat to law lecturer, David Round, National's candidate for Christchurch East in 2005.
Behind us was the Labour Party stand manned by new MP Lesley Soper-they were s-l-o-w.
The Workers Party (the only communist group on campus since the collapse of Christchurch's "Socialist Worker" branch a couple of years ago) weren't exactly inundated with enquiries either.
Also met a very interesting economics lecturer, who had studied at the prestigious pro free market Mercatos Center at George Mason University, Washington DC.
Shock of the day was hearing a rumor that my AOC mate from Wellington, Jordan, has joined the Labour Party! He was even manning their stand at Vic's Clubs Day, yesterday!
Now I've only met Jordan once, but was very impressed by him. A hard-core, no bullshit libertarian, a jazz lover and a clearly principled guy.
What made him do it? I'm told it was love-seduced by a Labourite, but that doesn't ring true to me.
Tell me its all a misunderstanding Jordan-I must admit I'm confused.
If it is true Jordan-best of luck.
Hope you come back some day.

alas, jordan is lost to communism. he even has a chavez statuette in his room.
what kind of jazz did he love? libertarian would suggest bebop, trad would suggest Alliance, Big band swing, probably Labour. Herbie Man or MJ Quartette stuff, probably Greens.
Start really worrying if he turns on old time C& W. Anticapitalist Alliance listening so I'm told.
just trying to help here.
Good job guys, I think we got about 40-50 here in Wellington too.
Not sure whats got into Jordan but I guess it's his choice...
hey, well done in Wellington!
that's nearly as many as the Workers Party signed up there.
We've got some real good economics teachers at Canty
We have Rick-did you study there before going to Auckland?
Anon,
How close does this bring you to the 500 required for electoral registration??
Only about 440 to go Andrew-at $1 each thats only...uh....uh...uh...uh..$440!
Small price to pay for socialist revolution.
Was AOC at Auckland Uni O Week? I looked all around for them but couldn't find them.
Close enough to call Andrew. Take a deep breath, dig a fallout shelter and lock up all your personal private property. We's a coming.
We's a ready.
Jordan only joined Labour because I offered him cookies.
