"This Will End in Tears"
Gerald Warner witing in the UK Telegraph
This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.
We have been here before. In the spring of 1997, to be precise, when a charismatic, young prime minister entered Downing Street, cheered by children bussed in for the occasion waving plastic Union Jacks. A very few of us at that time incurred searing reproaches for denouncing the Great Charlatan (as I have always denominated Tony Blair) and dissenting from the public hysteria. Three times a deluded Britain elected that transparent fraud. Yesterday, when national bankruptcy became a formal reality, we reaped the bitter harvest of the Blair/Brown imposture.
The burnt child, contrary to conventional wisdom, does not fear the fire. After the Blair experience there is no excuse for anybody in Britain falling for Obama. Yet today, in this country, even some of those who remained sane during the emotional spasm of the Diana aberration are pumping the air for Princess Barack. At a time of gross economic and geopolitical instability throughout the Western world, this is beyond irresponsibility.

There is either a disconnect between these people's ability to reason, and their desire to have a minority president, or they are straight-up idiots, or evil. It's so easy to see through him. Why can't others??
Considering the medium through which this bloke speaks, the Telegraph, has been at the leading edge of cranking up public hysteria over chimera, often complete falsehoods, particularly during the Thatcher years (eg General Belgrano was within exclusion zone when torpedoed) when it suits their Tory agenda, it's a bit rich for that fishwrap to point the finger at anyone else for selling a political myth.
I have no wish to defend the excreable Obama, but communication with friends who are voters in the amerikan empire, has reassured me that many aren't blind to the fact this fellow is just another politician albeit one with more ability to sell the proverbial fridge to an eskimo, than the usual political scum, but still a pol.
Those friends tell me the pervasive feeling is to enjoy the honeymoon while it lasts because Obama's obeisance to all the usual suspects in Wall St guarantees the honeymoon will be short.
But none of that obviate's the reality that Obama is amerika's first unwhite prez, something that the tens of millions of oppressed within the amerikan empire must see as a cause for celebration. After all over the course of the amerikan empire's development the vast majority of it's cruellest oppressors have been white.
Exactly why hundreds of millions outside amerika oppressed by that empire are also joyous. When you're getting the crap kicked out of you by any whitefella with a gun and enough money to ensure the law is always on his side, you take succor in tiny reliefs.
