Methodist Mission's True "Capitalism" Inspires

My old mate Cameron says that Johnny Howard's decision to sell uranium to Russia is an example of capitalism-as long as you make a dollar today, bugger the future consequences.

This is what happens under capitalism. Only short term profit is taken into account. If it's profitable today to sell weapons to people who want to kill us tomorrow - it happens.

For a start, in a rational capitalist society, selling uranium to an enemy like Russia, would be banned on security grounds.

But here's an example of real "capitalism" at work.

From Stuff

The Methodist Mission has taken a moral stand on gambling, saying it will no longer apply for Christchurch Casino grants no matter how much the money is needed.

Christchurch Methodist Mission superintendent Michael Greer said the social service provider had decided casino funding was inconsistent with its beliefs.

"It was not an easy decision," he said yesterday.

"It's convenient and easy to rationalise and say that it (the money) is better to be distributed for good than ill. But finally we've decided for us – and it's no judgment on others – that it would be more consistent and display greater integrity not to be an applicant for the funding."

Now Cameron, that's what I call real capitalism. Free individuals making ethical decisions regarding their own, or voluntarily given money.

Congratualations to the Methodist Mission for putting morality before short term financial gain. Inspiring.

The same goes for the proceeds from any gambling enterprise. pokies in particular but also Lotto.
Lotto is promoted not as gambling but family entertainment. Just fun fun fun. And those who can lest afford to play are some of the biggest punters.

Like selling unranium to the Ruskies. Its ok as long as they dont pay us back with a bomb. Which is what most get when playing the numbers game.
